Junctions

Create, edit, and refine junction content, including generated junction visuals, placement-prop filtering, and corner radius adjustment on selected junction corners. The Junction tab is used to inspect and edit existing junctions in the scene. Junction editing is selection-driven. Instead of drawing a new road, you select a junction or a junction corner and then adjust the junction behaviour, corner shape, or generated junction visuals from the Road Constructor panel and viewport. Use this tab when you want to refine how roads meet, check the generated internals of a junction, adjust corner radius values, or decide which generated visual categories should appear around the junction area.

Opening the Junction tab

  1. Open Road Constructor in the editor.
  2. Choose the Junction icon from the top tab row.
  3. Select an existing junction in the viewport or outliner.
  4. Select a junction corner when you want to edit corner-specific settings such as radius.
  5. Review the Junction tab settings before changing generated visual filters. The Junction tab is not primarily a road drawing tab. Roads are usually created from the Create tab, and junctions are produced when roads connect. The Junction tab is then used to refine selected junctions and their generated visual output.

Essential mouse and viewport controls

Junction work combines Road Constructor panel controls with normal Unreal Engine viewport selection and navigation. The exact behaviour can depend on the current tool state, but the controls below are the practical starting point.


Selecting a junction

Before editing a junction, select it in the viewport or from the outliner. Once selected, the Junction tab becomes the place to review junction-specific settings, generated visual filters, and any available selected-corner tools.

  1. Use LMB to select the junction actor or junction visual/selection handle.
  2. Check that the Junction tab remains active.
  3. Look for junction-specific details, readouts, or selected-corner controls in the panel.
  4. Make one small change at a time, then inspect the result in the viewport. If the panel does not show the expected junction options, confirm that the junction itself is selected rather than only a connected road. A connected road and the junction it feeds into can be separate selectable items.

Selecting a junction corner

Junction corners can be edited individually. This is useful when one corner needs a tighter or wider curve than another, or when a junction needs to better match the surrounding road layout.

  1. Select the Junction tab.
  2. Select the junction you want to edit.
  3. LMB-click the corner of the junction that you want to adjust.
  4. After the corner is selected, use the available corner controls in the panel.
  5. Inspect the result from above and from a lower angle to confirm the corner shape suits the road layout.

Junction corner radius

The radius option controls the curve of a selected junction corner. A smaller radius creates a tighter corner. A larger radius creates a wider, smoother corner. This is one of the most important controls for making a junction look natural, especially where different road widths or road styles meet.

  1. Select the junction.
  2. Select the specific corner you want to edit with LMB.
  3. Locate the radius option for the selected corner.
  4. Increase the value for a wider, smoother curve, or reduce it for a tighter corner.
  5. Check that the generated curbs, markings, railings, shoulders, medians, drainage, furniture, and road wear still suit the new corner shape.
  6. Repeat for other corners only where needed.

Placement Props in the Junction tab

The Placement Props section controls which generated visual categories are allowed on the selected junction. This does not mean every category must be visible at all times. Instead, it gives you control over whether the junction inherits the Create tab filter, uses a safe preset, enables everything, disables everything, or uses manual category filters.

The Current Junction Filter readout lists the categories currently allowed for the junction. Use this readout before applying or rebuilding junction details so you know what the junction is allowed to generate.

Inherit Create Tab Placement Props

Enable Inherit Create Tab Placement Props when the selected junction should follow the same placement filter currently being used in the Create tab. This helps keep roads and junctions consistent when you are building a road network with one shared visual setup.

Disable it when the junction needs its own local placement prop setup. This is useful when a junction needs fewer props than the roads around it, or when a junction needs a custom set of generated details for readability or performance.

Use Full Road Style Props

Use Full Road Style Props allows the junction to use the complete prop and generated detail setup defined by the active RoadStyle, where applicable. This can be useful for final visual passes, but it may be too much during early layout or troubleshooting.

Category Filters

Category Filters let you decide exactly what type of generated junction detail is allowed. This is useful when you want a junction to include some generated systems but not others.

Basic junction workflow

  1. Create or connect roads using the normal road creation workflow.
  2. Open the Junction tab once the junction exists.
  3. Select the junction with LMB.
  4. Select an individual corner with LMB if you need to edit the corner radius.
  5. Adjust the selected corner radius to suit the road type and turning shape.
  6. Choose Create Tab, Safe, All, or None in Placement Props depending on the desired generated visual output.
  7. Enable or disable specific category filters if the junction needs a custom generated-detail setup.
  8. Inspect the junction from above and at road level using normal viewport navigation.
  9. Repeat only the corner or filter adjustments that are needed.
